Just saw 5 minutes of an Enid Blyton's FAMOUS FIVE film on BBC 1 earlier.. Yep surprise surprise.. Georgina and her mother are Black!!!! If Georgina's mother, and the other kids mother, are supposedly sisters How come they aren't coloured too
I noticed the same situation in an Agatha Christie film. that was on recently. Set in the 1940's 50's with a young(looked about 18) black Scotland Yard detective... Anyone who lived in these times know You NEVER saw a black policeman never mind a Black Scotland Yard detective aged 18.. The only black people I saw, where pit men. On their way home after working down a pit for 8 hours..How come its now the norm for black people to take on parts of white people Yet none of white people taking the parts of Black People??? Can you image the furor if Tom Hanks played Martin Luther King in a film..

They showed a black Anne Boleyn once . The period was 1536 .

A question ......

Do white actors and bear in mind you cannot call a female actor an 'actress' anymore, but doo yoo ever see a white actor depicting a black character ?

I mean if they did a remake of Robinson Crusoe, would they cast a white actor as Black Friday ?

I think I read somewhere that in most programmes there must be a black actor

And adverts too…

In the 1st series of Midsomer murders there where NO coloured characters and they where slated for this. But the story lines where based on what they called Middle England villages which then did not have an influx of coloured families. Now programmes even adverts must have coloured actors or gays to us common folk has the norm

There is an excellent chance that during a run of adverts you won't see a white male at all .
Now , when I watch an advert I look for the wokery in it rather than engage with the product . Sometimes I've not a clue what they've just advertised.
Not good for the ad men .

Recently, Dr Watson in Sherlock Holmes was showned as being Asian, but as he had in the stories, served as a Doctor in the Colonial British Army of the Raj, there was no way that he would been Asian as all British members of the Army, especially Officers in the days of the Victorian British Empire were White.

Dr Watson was in fact based on the author himself, Arthur Conan Doyle.

What next, a Black or Asian Robin Hood?

The tv and movie industry serves to entertain and in doing so raise profits. Not to accurately represent history or works of literature.

No it’s not, it’s an insult aimed at those who can’t stop moaning about irrelevant issues that are beyond their control. Usually middle aged men or older with nothing better to do with their time.

Gammons are gammons as far as I am concerned, regardless of their ethnicity or skin colour. Same applies to the wokes.

I am at present watching on BBC2, the New Years Day concert given by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, which is taking place at the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna.

Because I always take note of how many non white people are playing in the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra on New Years day, and last year I think there was one, and there were one or two non white people in the audience, but this year I couldn't see any none white people in the orchestra or in the audience, now I am not saying there were none in either, because I was mainly listening rather than viewing the concert, in any case if there were none white people there, then there weren't many of them, and the orchestra does not deem to want female players either, because there aren't many of those in that orchestra, and this is an old article from 2010 LINK but for me it shows that in the over thirteen years since that article was written, then nothing has changed, so
in my opinion the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra is a racist organisation and possibly sexist too, and why are there not many if any white people in the audience.

So for me it is a racist event.

Because it shows where there is a truly racist and sexist place, you don't like things like that, so yoo should be offended, it offends me, however having a black George in an Enid Blyton adventure, I find that offensive too, because I like many other British people grew up with the Enid Blyton books, and the George character was not black, and what gets to me is that now I have said that, I am now classed as being a racist, I wear a white pointed hood and outfit, and chase black people on horseback whilst holding a flaming cross.
Same with Brexit, I express concern at unfettered EU immigration and I am a racist, I want Brexit and I am a racist, but I am not a racist I just don't want a black George.

There is a whole section of the public that believe those from ethnic origins should be represented on TV. Why should they be ignored?

Furthermore when I watch TV or a film the focus for me is the content and the storyline, not what colour skin the actors have.........Why do you think differently?

I didn’t see it but I don’t doubt there was probably numerous other significant differences between the books and the tv adaptation. There generally is when a work of fiction is dramatised. However it would seem the only thing that matters is the colour of a certain character’s face.

I dont think so. Unless you count that part Eddie Murphy played in Coming to America. Saul I think it was......but is there a need to?......whites are hardly under-represented on TV and in films.........are they?

Of course Black and Asian people should be represented in television programmes and advertisements, but when you take into account the fact that Black and Asian people only constitute less than 10% of the population, but on television appeared to be far in excess of that figure percentage wise and history is being distorted to what is a terrible extent, posters are entitle to express an opinion what is happening without the issue of racism being introduced into the topic.

In order to make sure that you and I and all Brits are open and inclusive, it is important to have this diversity in TV. It isn't linked with the percentage of population of one or another group in the UK but rather it serves to normalize this mix of groups and celebrate it....This is not just for blacks, but also disabled, gay, or whoever...Bringing to the forefront that everyone is equal and worthy...

Is that 10% of TV in general or 10% of the TV the average person actually watches?

And what about areas of the country where the ethnic population accounts for more than 10%.

As regards accurately portraying history….. well where do we start???
Everyone I see in historically based programmes seems to be in perfect health, have perfect haircuts, has perfect teeth, wears clean well fitting clothes, speaks perfect English, often with terms and expressions from modern times……so who do I complain to?

I worked for a Jewish owned company for 15 years and saw very little antisemitism. Most Jews belonging to the Reform branch of Jewry, almost all in England with a few in Wales, live a normal life amongst the general population. The Orthodox Jews do still have problems with some of the idiots in society.
There’s no doubt in years gone by it was a problem in parts of the UK going to the very top of society.
A highly regarded Jewish surgeon I know told me of his father’s experience in the 1930’s. He was practicing as a consultant surgeon in Manchester and had gained a reputation of excellence. Chatting to a fellow consultant one day he was told his career advancement chances were very slim in Manchester due to his religion and he would be better off in London. Down in London he made rapid advances and became the foremost surgeon in his specialty. Some time later the surgeon to the Royal household said to him that he had to go to the Palace and would like him to go on standby because he knew more about the problem than himself. His parting remark was ‘ make sure you go in via the tradesman’s entrance.’

A typical situation in the 1930’s.

‘Wanted, Midlands, Assistant [doctor] … male. Panel 1,950. Receipts £2,700. Good House and garden available. No Jews or men of colour’ 2
